What is an End-of-Life Doula?
The word doula comes from the Greek term meaning “woman of service.” While birth doulas support individuals entering the world, end-of-life doulas offer a compassionate presence as someone prepares to leave it.
Unlike hospice nurses, end-of-life doulas are not part of the medical team. Instead, doulas fill the space between clinical care and personal needs — offering emotional, spiritual, and practical support tailored to what matters most to you and your loved ones.
The goal is simple yet profound: to help someone live their best life until their very last breath.
What does that mean? That’s entirely up to you. After receiving a terminal diagnosis, you may find yourself asking: What do I need? What do I want to accomplish? What needs to be planned, completed, or simply acknowledged?
The answers are yours to define. An end-of-life doula offers non-judgmental, personalized support to help you navigate this time with clarity, dignity, and peace.
